Choose for the room, then for the look

A kitchen, living room and bathroom do not ask exactly the same things of a floor. Traffic, moisture exposure, cleaning habits and adjoining materials all influence the choice. Start with the rooms you want to update and how they connect. If you are hoping to carry one finish through several spaces, tell us about thresholds, steps and existing height differences. A sample can show color and texture, but suitability must be checked for the intended application. We will discuss the actual product and room conditions during the estimate.

Preparation is part of the finished result

Tile needs a suitable supporting surface. Existing flooring, cracks, uneven areas and signs of moisture should be reviewed before deciding on the installation approach. Removing an old floor can reveal conditions that were not visible during an initial visit. A clear scope identifies the planned preparation and the process for addressing discoveries. Do not assume a new tile layer can simply be placed over every existing surface. Door clearances, cabinets, appliances and adjoining floor heights may all be affected by the final assembly, and these details belong in the early conversation.

A layout that makes the room feel resolved

Tile size and orientation influence the way a room reads. A large format can reduce visual busyness, while a smaller module may suit tighter spaces or more detailed layouts. Setting out the pattern before installation helps identify cuts at walls and doorways. Grout color can create contrast or allow the surface to feel more continuous. Movement joints and product-required spacing must still be respected. Bring photographs of the room and any reference finishes you like. We can discuss the design without treating a photograph as a substitute for product specifications or a measured layout.

Transitions deserve their own conversation

The edge between tile and another material is often where a project feels either considered or unfinished. Review each doorway, stair edge and change of surface. Baseboards, trim and existing fixtures may need to be removed or adjusted, and responsibilities should be included in the estimate. For wet areas, the floor finish is only one part of the assembly; waterproofing requirements and the boundaries of the work must be established. A flooring tile estimate does not automatically include a full bathroom renovation, plumbing changes or work behind walls.

Plan around an occupied home

Floor replacement affects access, furniture and everyday routines. Tell us which rooms must remain usable, whether pets are present and whether the property is occupied by tenants. Discuss furniture movement, work-area protection, debris removal and the route materials will take through the home. Product lead times, removal and preparation can influence the schedule. Adhesives, grout and other materials have their own return-to-use requirements. We will explain the proposed sequence during your estimate so you can plan around it. Avoid scheduling dependent deliveries or other trades against an assumed completion date before the scope is agreed.

Understand care and the complete price

A useful quote identifies the tile, area, removal, preparation, layout, grout and transitions. Specialty patterns, small rooms with many cuts and substrate work can affect labor even when the floor area is modest. Ask which care products suit both the tile and grout, and whether any selected material needs sealing. Keep spare product if recommended and retain the exact product reference for future maintenance. Any applicable warranty terms should be explained in writing. Bring the whole room into the selection

When comparing samples, place them beside the cabinets, paint and adjoining floor that will remain. Look at the surface in daylight and with the room lighting switched on. A grout sample can help you judge whether you prefer a quiet continuous field or a more visible pattern. Note appliances that may need to move and doors that may need clearance adjustments; those responsibilities should be discussed before work starts. If only one room is being updated, pay particular attention to the transition into the next. These decisions help the new floor feel like part of the home rather than an isolated finish choice.

Talk about your project ↗
Can you install tile over my existing floor?

The existing material, bond, condition, moisture and finished heights need to be assessed. An overlay is not suitable for every floor.

What affects the installation price?

Removal, preparation, room size, tile format, pattern, grout and transitions all affect the scope. We prepare an estimate for your specific rooms.

Does flooring work include waterproofing?

Wet-area requirements and the boundaries of the work must be discussed explicitly. Do not assume a flooring quote includes a complete waterproofing or bathroom renovation system.
